FAQ

The following questions where frequently asked thats why we have summarized them below.

Is the VanAmstelDiamond a natural diamond?
Yes. VanAmstel diamonds are natural diamonds. They are mined from the same mines as all the other diamonds. From these natural diamonds we buy the stones with small imperfections in order to make these imperfections invisible.
How do you enhance the clarity of a diamond?
When light travels from one medium to another it changes direction. Logically, when light travels through a diamond with visual irregulaties this occurs. The visual irregularities are called feathers. The light is scattered in a number of directions when it comes in contact with the feather. Precisely these reflections make the feather visible and the diamond is judged as "less valuable". In order to avoid the effects of these visual imperfections Vanansteldiamond places a moleculair amount of material INSIDE the feather. The optical properties of this material are almost identical to that of the diamond. Due to this treatment light can travel through the feather as if it was not there. The clarity enhancement proces (CE) uses a moleculair amount of material. The amount of material is so microscopical that the "Gemological Institute of America" (GIA) has reported that the clarity enhancement proces adds zero weight to the diamond.
Does the diamond contain glass or synthetic material?
No. The "Gemological Institute of America" (GIA) has reported that the clarity enhancement (CE) proces adds no measurable amount of weight to the diamond. The added material is of microscopical level, such as that it cannot take a materials structure.
Can someone else than a juweler see that the diamond is clarity enhanced?
No. The clarity enhancements are not visible. Only a trained jeweler with the aid of a 10 times magnifying glass can observe the enhancements. Also the GIA has not observed any change in wieght before and after the treatment. The material that is used for the enhancements is of such moleculair level that is does not add any measurable amount of weight.
How does the quality of a clarity enhanced (CE) diamond compare to other diamonds?
Diamond quality can be subdivided in three parts:
  • Esthetical quality
  • The esthetical quality of a clarity enhanced diamond as a jewel is equal to that of other diamonds. The clarity enhanced diamond is a natural diamond and the clarity enhancements are invisble. The clarity enhancements are placed INSIDE the diamond and are only observable with 10 times magnifying loop.
  • Mechanical quality
  • The mechanical strength of a clarity enhanced diamond is comparable to other diamonds. There have been sold more than 30000 clarity enhanced diamonds and none of these diamonds have been broken or shattered in a ring.
  • Sustainability as a quality
  • The clarity enhanced diamond is forever. The clarity enhancements are permanent and do not discolor or age. The GIA (Gemological Institute of America) has judged that only some extreme environments can damage the enhancements; temperatures higher than 800-900 degrees celsius, boiling acids or bases.
A clarity enhanced diamond thus has a same quality as other diamonds.
Is a clarity enhanced diamond forever?
Yes. The "Gemological Institue of America" (GIA) has judged that the enhancements under normal wear and tear are completely stable. There are only two things that can damage the enhancements: the exposure of the diamond to open fire of above 800-900 degrees Celsius or boiling acids or bases.
Can the clarity be enhanced on every diamond?
Only specific imperfections can be repaired. Due to this it is not possible to enhance all diamonds. Only 1 in about 500 diamonds are suitable for the clarity enhancement proces.
Are other gemstones being treated?
Yes. Almost all gemstones at alomost every jeweler have been treated. Emeralds are oiled, topas are irradiated, saffires heated, pearls bleached, etc...
Why do VanAmstel diamonds cost less than other comparable looking diamonds?

Is it possible to see a vanamsteldiamond?
Vanamsteldiamond works with a full money back garuantee.

What is the investment value of a clarity enhanced natural diamond?
Clarity enhanced diamonds are relatively unknown and because of this still relatively cheap. Only 1 in 500 diamonds is suited for the clarity enhancement treatment. The expectation is that the familiarity of clarity enhanced diamonds will increase in the years to come and accompanying that the demand for such diamonds. With an increasing demand the prices will also increase due to the inherent scarcity of the diamond. With this expected price outlook for clarity enhanced diamonds it is a splendid valuable investment that you can also wear.
